Greener Village, Home of the Fredericton Food Bank Recognizes Four
Fredericton, NB – On May 2nd, Steven Murdoch of the Nashwaaksis Y’s Service Club
donated $4,000 to Greener Village Food Bank. The Nashwaaksis Y’s Service Club has
been a long-standing partner of Greener Village and has supported many different
programs and initiatives over the years. We greatly appreciate all that they’ve done!
On May 3rd, representatives from all 3 local credit unions in Fredericton visited Greener
Village to take part in a learning session surrounding our new Meals Made Simple
program. They also were happy to provide a $10,000 award in conjunction with
Concentra’s Empowering Your Community Awards. Greener Village has had a long and
meaningful relationship with these Omista, NBTA, and Progressive Credit Union and
looks forward to helping people through this award.
On May 9th, our Executive Director attended the Top 50 CEO Awards Gala hosted by
Atlantic Business Magazine. It was a wonderful evening filled with great food,
stimulating presentations, and wonderful networking opportunities. As part of the
event, Atlantic Business Magazine made a $5,000 donation to Greener Village. Our
Executive Director, Alex Boyd was thrilled to be able to give a short acceptance speech
thanking the business leaders in attendance for their support of the Greener Village
To close out the month of May, on the 28th Alex Boyd, Executive Director of Greener
Village Food Bank, received a donation of $10,000 from Fredericton Direct Charge CoOp’s 50/50 fundraising program. Fredericton Co-op has been a stalwart supporter of
our work for many years, both in regular food donations and financial support through
their 50/50 program.
Thank you to the NBTA Credit Union, OMISTA Credit Union, and Progressive Credit Union for the $10,000 award for our Meals Made Simple program! The money was secured through Concentra 's Empowering Your Community award.
The new Meals Made Simple program will educate our clients about food, help them make recipes, and help them budget more effectively for their food.
We would also like to thank local MLA's David Coon and Kris Austin for attending the announcement event.

It has been a busy month for sure. Our Christmas program is well under way with over 2400 angel gift requests and 1100 hamper requests already processed.
We've had some big food drives from Keller Williams, Grace Memorial Church and Skillsoft. A generous donation from the Fredericton Kinsmen. A drive for baby items from Strollerfit and continued support from the fantastic folks at Walmart on Two Nations Crossing.
We've also just finished another Community Food Mentor Course! This marks our 10th time running this course centered around food security and it's always interesting to see the wide variety of people interested in a topic very close to our hearts.
We're happy to be part of the annual Mactaquac ScareFair! This Saturday, October 27th. Free Admission with donation of non-perishable food items!
UPS has been a long time supporter of the work we do at Greener Village and some of them came in the other day to give us a few hours of their time as volunteers!
We know nobody wants to think of it quite yet but in order to make our Christmas program as successful as it is it means we need to start early. We've begun registering food bank clients for the program, taking the angel requests and writing up the angels for when the Angel Tree goes up at the Regent Mall on November 14th. Our Christmas program provides Christmas dinner to nearly 1000 families in the Fredericton area and over 2600 presents to children!
We need volunteers for both admin work at Greener Village and table work at the mall. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you're able to give us a hand this season.
When we get to that time of year when people say what they are thankful for - we are thankful for the continued support from the community. From individual donations to large corporate donations, the people and businesses of Fredericton are what allow us to provide assistance to over 1200 families every month.
We're happy to have the Spark program from George Street School come in Friday mornings to explore cooking in the kitchen with Chef Yves. Today the kids made homemade pizza and pasta salad.

Nice to have people come in from Deloitte as part of their month of giving!! They got a ton (literally) accomplished in the food warehouse and in sorting the incoming donations coming in to the boutique!
On top of growing edible produce for our clients and our kitchen we also make sure to plant a number of various flowers and plants for our bee and butterfly friends. Having a variety of plants for our pollinators helps the entire system to produce more.
A huge thank you to York Dental and Midtown Dental for their generous donation!!
Twice a month we host a Collective Kitchen where a group of 5-7 people get together, cook a bunch of food and then everyone goes home with eight portions of the dishes ready for freezing or eating!

It was very exciting to be able to host the Maritime Gospel Music Association as they held a benefit concert here on our beautiful property. The backdrop of a thriving community garden was a great place to listen to some music and enjoy a pizza from our wood-fired oven.
We've posted our August classes before, but since we are now officially into August, it felt right to post them again. All our classes are open to the general community. If you see something you'd like to learn, don't hesitate to contact us.
Also, our Meals Made Simple program, which is an extension of our Learning Kitchen, is continuing to be developed. We are standardizing our recipes and will soon be working on the cost associated portion of the program. Come in for a tour to find out more about the program or if you have some free time to devote to it we'd love to chat with you! In the month of July we reached out to individuals, businesses and government groups to talk to them about the challenges Food Banks face in the summer months. Demand doesn't dip nearly as much as the support level does when people go away on holiday. We asked that they bring some Christmas spirit to the month of July. We received some instant response from individuals and now that July is over, some of the business and government groups are bringing in their food drive results.
On the left are some representatives from Department of Finance who not only did a food drive, but also brought in cash to help us out. Thanks for your great work!
On the right are Maggie and Morgan from Enbridge Gas NB. The folks at Enbridge Gas NB challenged their employees to bring in food items by promising to match every $5 worth of food with a $10 donation from the company. Great work, Enbridge Gas NB.
Large or small, every bit of support is appreciated as we seek to help. We are very grateful for all the members of the community as we wouldn't be able to do our work without you! We're happy to be part of this Retail Food Program, a relatively new partnership between retail stores and local food banks to pass on surplus foods. Locally we receive goods from Walmart, Superstore, Sobeys and Little Caesars as well as smaller or independent retailers like the Vanier Coop, Mike's Bakery and The Chesspiece.
Come down for our third (or fourth...we're not sure) Christmas in July sale! July 9th to 20th in the Unique Boutique.
